my dad was wondering if there were any laws pretaining to his employer paying him overtime pay after a certain amount of hours

Yes, the U.S. Department of Labor has such regulations which require employers to pay all hourly wage employees time and one half compensation for all hours worked in excess of 40 in any given work week.
