Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Wrongful Termination
I was fired today because I put in a few hours on a day I normally don't work. I am a social worker. One of my clients was evicted and the home would not give him his life sustaining medication. He flagged me down and told me his problem. I helped him get his medication. I got fired. I did not expect to get paid. I wasn't even doing it as an employee. I was doing because a fellow human being needed my help. He already has 5 staples in his head from passing out from low blood sugar. He is an insulin dependent diabetic.

Re: Wrongful Termination
You might wish to consult with an attorney who regularly deals with Virginia labor and employment law issues to determine whether the circumstances of your termination might constitute a Bowman public policy exception to the general Virginia law that normally governs such summary terminations as an employment at will jurisdiction, and, consequently, may in fact actually qualify as a wrongful termination under the current law of the Commonwealth that is applicable to such matters.
