Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Wrongful Termination Suit

Hello,

I was recently laid off from a large company and I think they made a big mistake. The presented me a severance package and stated that this was a ''job elimination due to restructure'' and ''had nothing to do with performance''. I still have contacts within the company and had heard that they lied about it and were in fact just looking to replace me and my boss. Less than 3 weeks after this was done, they posted my old position exactly as it was as open for hire. Do I have a suit?

Re: Wrongful Termination Suit

You don't have a case unless you find out that you were fired based on age, sex, religion, national origin, disability, or gender discrimnation. Virginia is an at-will state, and as such they can fire your for any reason as long as it is non-discrimnatory. Good luck.
