Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Wrongful termination
I was terminated on Feb 13 2007 for improper vacation request by my supervisor. I have placed complaints against the same supervisor for the last two years for unethical practices at work and other safety and training violations. I express the situation to manager, departmentheads, regional manager, human resources, safety supervisor, OSHA and on Feb 15 of 2007 with the president of the company were he reacted as is it was all news to him and he was going to investigate and get back with me. On Feb. 20 I received a certified letter stating termination date of Feb. 09, 2007. That tuesday I call HR department and asked about the findings of the investigation and how come I was officialy terminated when I was told by the president that he was going to look in it further and what were my expectations of the findings. HR then stated that they were unaware of such meeting or files and that termination was Final as of Feb 09. When I spoke with other employees to see if any had asked any questions or walked around any areas they replied no. I was almost four years with the company and planning to move to CA this June of 2007 and had requested a possible transfer.
Please help,
Thank you.

Re: Wrongful termination
Unless you were working under a contract of employment which contained provision(s) protecting you against the kind of summary dismissal which you've described,I regret to report that you are, apparently, without a remedy or viable recourse. (Employees working in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a so-called employment at will jurisdiction, and without such contractual protections as described above, can be fired virtually at any time and for almost any reason which doesn't violate federal anti-discrimination laws.)
