Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

wrongfully forced to resign

I work at a public school system as a coordinator (not a teacher's contract). This is my 1st yr. w/ this system. A social worker who does book groups in our school chose a book for the students. A question came up about the appropriateness of the book and the principal asked me to read the book. I did not read the entire book, but some of it. I deemed the book appropriate for our 5 students in the group (overaged middle schoolers). The book has some sexually explicit content in it (it's a novel; no pictures or anything). Today, I was asked to resign at 3:30 pm est..I was given until 4:30 to resign; HR & Community Relations deemed the book inappropriate. Only 5 students read the book. HR said that if I didn't resign effective today, then they would move forward with termination immediately. I submitted my resignation today; I didn't want a termination on my record. Do I have any recourse? I have never been in trouble before on any job. I just can't believe that a book would come to this.

Re: wrongfully forced to resign

If you were working under an employment contract

and the contract was violated, you have recourse; if not, forget it.(The Commonwealth of Virginia is an employment-at-will jurisdiction.)
