Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

My apartment complex is trying to evict me based off a crime I did prior to signing my lease. They didnt do a background check prior to signing my lease and now want to evict me. They are claiming I violated my lease. Is it their fault for not doing their due diligence and doing a background check?

Would seem to depend upon what the lease itself may have to say about this matter (if anything) and therefore without having reviewed its terms,
