Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I applied for an apartment and wes declined but that but property manager pushed my application through wiht out my knowledge. I asked to see the apartment before I sgined that lease and she said that i was not avaiavble but everyth would be fine, so I signed the lease. My move in date was on 10/13/09 and when I entered that apartment that apartment was not ready and there was alot of theing aht were not done. I went to the property manager and told her. She said that seh hadn't even seen that apartment. At this i was unable to move in. She shae that it was going to be ready by 10/16 but that was not that date that i was suppose to sccupy that apartment. I was had to stay in a hotel. I went to her and told her that I any not satified with that apartment and I gave her back that key. She stated that I had to pay the full years rent on the lease which I thought was not justtifed beacue I could not enve move on on that date that was on that then. Then she lated stated I am responsible for the rent until she rents thed apartment out. I need to know one can I get that rented that I already paid back and am I responsible for the rent until she finds another occupant.

Thank you.

1. No, not too likely (in my opinion).

2. Yes, that's possible, unless you refuse to pay and have the matter brought before the general district court to contest the landlord's claim.
