Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

barring guests from home

My roomamte is having a problem with my boyfriend being at the house. She is saying he is living there but he is only there when I am there and I invte him to be with me. He has not damaged any property onthe house or any or her personal property. But she doesn't want him there. We had a meeting with our landlord about it because I feel I should be allowed to have him over when I want and have him stay the night with me if I want. My landlord told me I was violating my lease because ''he heard'' he was there alot. He said either I tell my boyfriend he can't be there or he will have to start the eviction processes. IS this legal? Can he tell me who I can have over and how much? And what constitutes him living there? I can't live like this and I have a small child in the house too and it a very hostile environment which I don't feel is safe for her. What are my options?

Re: barring guests from home

If it's a very hostile environment, then, perhaps, you should be looking for other living quarters.

As to whether you could be evicted from the premises, this would likely turn on the exact wording(and its reasonable interpretation) in the lease which relates to the issue which you've described.
