Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Bugs in townhouse

I recently moved to a townhouse and noticed that I have ants all over the house. I called the leasing company and told them of the ants they told me that the area that I live in is well known for ants and they would not provide me with an exterminator. The lease does not say any thing about bugs in the house or whos responsibility it is to have the pest control done. It was never disclosed to me that this place is known to have bugs. What can I do about this problem

Re: Bugs in townhouse

You can either hire an exterminator on your own to attempt to control the ants (which may be an exercise in futility as apparently indicated by the leasing company)or attempt to negotiate with the leasing company, perhaps, to have you placed in another townhouse minus the ants.
