Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Buying a rented house

My fiance and I are in the middle of buying a house that is occupied by rentors, we were told they had a lease agreement with the party we are buying it from for a year which will be up in July 1st. We want to be able to move into our house now. Is it against the law to remove them because we are buying the home? Or will we have to wait for the lease to be up with the persons we are buying it from?

Re: Buying a rented house

As purchasers, you have no standing to remove renters from the premises. You say you were "told" the lease is up July 1st, before you purchase the property, you should review the lease agreement to determine the rights and obligations of both the landlord and tenant.

Re: Buying a rented house

You cannot remove these renters until their lease is up on July 1, 2007. Any title that you receive to this property as a result of a purchase agreement executed prior to that date will be subject to the lease agreement between your seller and these renters.
