Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

The carpet in my townhome I'm renting was a year old when I moved in. I have been here for 7 years. With young children, the carpet is damaged in high traffic areas. I'm moving out and would like to know what responsibility on replacing the carpet is mine and the what part is the landlord?

Check your lease and call your landlord and ask them to replace it if its dangerous, etc.
