Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I am being charged for many things in my apartment that are not accurate. I have the move out statement and the pictures to back it up. What can I do to get my deposit back?

If the landlord is holding back the money (not trying to sue you already in court), you will probably need to file a lawsuit in General District Court to get your money back.,

There is a danger that if you sue for your deposit back, the landlord can try to sue you for MORE than the total amount of your deposit. But the landlord will have to prove that the money is due.

Because the amount is probably small, less than $1000, it would probably be too expenseive to hire a lawyer.
