Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I am a co-tenant on a lease for a single family home. Things didn't work out between the co-tenant and I. I called the landlord and told them the situation. They stated I was still responsible because my name is on the lease. I moved out. The rent fell behind and the landlord wrote a letter stating a day when the occupants had to be out. Can the landlord, one day after that day, change the locks on the doors? Can this be used as a defense for not owing the remaining balnce on the lease?

No, that will not get you off the hook for the balance owed on the lease.
