Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

hi - went to court today in the city of alexandria, va and the judge would not listen to my case he said i need an attorney since i was Incorporated...talked to an attorney before and he said i did not need an attorney that i was able to represent myself...being it was for $10,070.00..this is considered small claims the judge said i was in civil court...so i'm confused can an Inc. represent themselves or not..what happened......who was right in this case the attorney or the judge..or both can i represent myself in small claims if so why did the clerk file in civil court....thanks

Small claims is civil court (general district) and the rules provide

that with respect to a corporation or partnership, an owner, general partner,

officer or employee of such corporation or partnership may represent it

in small claims court.
