Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Deposit return
I only received a partial refund of a deposit on a rental agreement. If I cash this check, does it legally suggest that I accept this amount? I am considering a claim against this landlord.

Re: Deposit return
In order to dispel that possible interpretation, just note the following on the back of the check before cashing it:
All Rights Reserved Without Prejudice--UCC 1-308--
JOHN HANCOCK, i.e, your signature.

Re: Deposit return
No. You can still make a claim for the remainder of the deposit. Did the landlord provide you with an itemized list of damages?
