Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

early lease termination

I have a back problem which is

getting worse an is going to require

surgery. I am 55 yrs old. I live on

the 4th floor of my apart bldg and

have 60 stairs to climb which is

getting more difficult. The bldg is

outside only access,no elevator. My

doc won't even schedule surgery

until I live somewhere with an

elevator, since I will not be able to

climb stairs for 4-6mos after the

surgery or on 1st floor(which I don't

want to do since I live alone). My

lease is up in Oct 09 but they won't

let me out of it early w/o paying the

remaining months. Which I can'r

afford to do esp since i will be out

of work for 4-6mos after the

surgery. I have found a apart very

close by with an elevator which has

just been built. Is there any legal

way that I can terminate my lease

early w/o paying if I have a Doctors

letter stating the above situation?
