Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Hello,

I am a sophomore at Liberty University in Virginia. I recently discovered that the locks on my room's door are faulty. However, I did not discover this until I came back to my dorm one night to discover my that my 80 Gig IPod was stolen. Perplexed at how this could have happened since my door was locked, I then discovered that the locks on my door did not work. Is the University at fault for my stolen IPod and is there any way I could be compensated for it?

Thank You

Why not present your claim to those school officials designated to handle such matters and see what happens? (After all, as I occasionally remind my clients: "Them that don't ask, (frequently) don't get.")
