Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

higher rent than anyone else

I am living in a condo and just became aware that my rent is 200.00 more per month than my neighbors who moved in before me the same time as me and after me. Can they do that? Also they charge me an amount monthly for propane usage without a meter reading even though a meter is right outside my door. I also found out that the furnace heat pump was installed without filters so there is a dust and breathing issue. What options if any, do I have, I am under a 1 year lease that ends in April. I am not sure I can last that long here. This is handled by a property mgt company. Thanks for any and all info I can get.

Re: higher rent than anyone else

You could certainly take these matters up with your landlord(the owner of your unit) but since you're merely a renter(from his/her perspective), I would not be terribly

optimistic about much happening in your

favor in regard to the problematical situations which you've described.

And, no, I would not count on being allowed to terminate the lease prematurely without penalty, if I were you.
