Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Hii,, We stay in an appartment and its a 2bedroom with den, with full bath and one half bath.. We are in total 4mems internation students signed the lease. After staying more than 18months we gave notice before 60days and we vacated the appartment. We vacated in end of may and recently we recieved email without any prior notice we recived email for financial collection officer send me estimation of damage amount around 10000$ and asked to pay immediately, before that we haven't received any notice from leasing office landlord. After recieving it we went to leasing office and asked few questions to provide information about damage , but they havent responded and even hesitated to answer our questions and very rude about it. We are not present at the time of inspection. Now they just asking to pay such an big amount without any notice they just sent it to financial collection officer.. we havenot damaged those things. Carpets has some spots on it and cabinets are very good , they dont need any replacement for it. So what can we do now??
We dont had ssn at the time of lease so does it effects credit history without ssn?
If we dont pay what happens? How does it effects us?

No, you are deluding yourselves if you think you can ignore this situation without

suffering adverse consequences and possibly for many years to come. And, yes,

your landlord does not need your SS# to file a negative report alleging your delinquency

with the three major credit reporting agencies.
