Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I own a home in Portsmouth Virginia and leased to a tenant from Oct 2008 thru Oct 2009. I asked the tenant several times were they going to renew, prior to lease expiration and received no response. At the end of the lease term they moved without giving notice. The lease does not include a paragraph that specifies 30 or 60 day notice is required. Can I sue tenant for the inconvenience of not being able to reduce my losses by finding a new renter or buyer, even if it is not specifically stated in the lease?

Sure you sue, but how could you win if this former tenant wasn't required to give you such notice under the lease agreement prior to moving out?
