My husband and I signed a lease a month ago. Now he has a surprise deployment coming up lasting longer than 180 days. Can a "duty commitment letter" from the ship break us from the lease with no penalties?

Yes, you as well as your husband should be covered under the SCRA (Servicemembers Civil Relief Act)
