Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

when does invited guest become squatter

i am wondering when someone obtains squatter's rights. if i invite someone over for the weekend, do they now have squatter's rights and must be evicted. also, does the verbal terms of my invitation,i.e.'you can stay the weekend' affect the situation.

Re: when does invited guest become squatter

Squatter's rights within the context which you've mentioned, do not exist.

There is no such right of any person invited over into someone's home for a visit to "plop down", so to speak, and decide to stay awhile in contravention of the wishes of the owner.

Any time the owner of the house tells this type of visitor to leave, he or she must leave-immediately-and has no legal right under any theory of squatter's rights---or any other theory, for that matter---to remain.
