My old landlord gave me a check for only half of my deposit when I moved out, I cashed the check and now the check cashing store is coming after me only for the money and has already sent to a debt collector, what can I do? I feel this is unfair since they are not going to the person who wrote the check to me.

Send written notice to this predator check cashing store that you
did not write this check nor make any guarantee as to the sufficiency of the
funds detailed thereon and therefore deny all liability connected with this insufficiency, and that, furthermore, you will hold them responsible for any adverse effects that may occur to your credit record as a result of their actions.
