Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

lease/ rental agreements

My lease that I signed ends feb. 28 2008, however I had to give 90 day written notice to vacate or it would renew for another twelve months. I gave the notice ninety days before and said I did not want to renew for another year but asked if could stay there until April 2008. They said yes in a letter back to me. I now want to vacate at the end of March instead. Is the letter I wrote of my intention to stay till April legally binding? Can I leave at the end of Feb. or March and not be held liable for April's Rent?

Re: lease/ rental agreements

Your written request to stay through April + the landlord's written response agreeing to the extension =

enforceable agreement in my opinion.

Therefore, if the foregoing is correct, the answer to your question must be: only if the landlord permits you to do so.
