What legal rights do you have when dealing with a roommate who continually fails to pay her portion of the rent and writes bad checks? The roommate did not sign a sublet agreement.

If this roommate is not entitled to be there under conditions required by the landlord, you could
inform the landlord of the situation and allow him or her to initiate action to evict this person.
However, if the agreement is merely a verbal understanding between you and her, you will likely
have to go to your local general district court (civil division) to fill out the paperwork necessary to start this
eviction process if she refuses to leave voluntarily after you've given her the required 5 day
PAY OR QUIT NOTICE.
