Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Am I legally obligated to pay....
I lived in a house in VA with five other girls. In Fredericksburg City, where we lived, the law says that only three unrelated people can legally live together. I never signed a contract/lease, my name is not on any of the bills. The girls and I had a falling out, and I moved out. For the past two months and again for this month, I paid rent despite not living there. Now that I have all of my furniture out, I told my roommates that this would be the last month I would be able to continue paying (thus giving 30+ days notice). She said she would file suit against me to force me to continue paying. Am I legally obligated to continue paying?

Only if it can be proven by a preponderance of the evidence that you had agreed to be bound by a valid and enforceable oral lease until its date of termination.
