Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
I live in a four room apartment with two additional tenants, one of the rooms is currently unoccupied. To show off the vacant room, management sent out a letter:
"Please be advised we will be showing the vacant room in your apartment beginning today December 15th - January 15, 2011 from 9am-7pm, 7 DAYS A WEEK. This is the only notice you will receive of the management staff entering your apartment. Please be advised that if you choose not to allow prospective tenants into the vacant rooms or to have access to the apartment all together during the hours listed above, you can choose to assume the additional rent payments on the vacant room."
After the said period was over, management sent out a new letter with refreshed dates: January 17, 2011- February 15, 2011 from 9am- 7pm, 7 days a week. Is the management company allowed to send out a letter that allows them to come into my apartment whenever they want to, without previous notice each and every time they come in, except for this once a month letter that they keep sending out every month? If so, can they force an additional room lease on me If I refuse them entry into my apartment each and every time they want to?

Hard to say with some assurance of certainty without reviewing the terms of your
original lease, but without having the opportunity to review this lease, I would
hazard a guess of, YES, in answer to both of your questions.
