Lost Check
When I moved into my new apartment, I gave them two checks (deposit and first month rent). They have misplaced my rent check and now want me to cancel the check and write them a new one. Is this legal or can I make them find the original check?

You may incur charges related to putting a stop payment on the check and make sure you understand the rules of a stop payment. Your bank should be able to tell you how long the stop payment is effective, etc. You may ask that your landlord cover the cost of the stop payment as they seem to acknowledge that it was received and it was due to their lack of care that the check was misplaced.
