Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
i am a mother, student, and also an apartment renter for three years i have been living in an unit where i have an worn out a.c unit. The renters office refuses to supply me with a new one based on the fact that i was running this unit for 2 with no cover or filter. i was not aware that i needed one being that i have little knowledge about airconditioner units. i did know that the corner of a filter that fell out of it when the cover fell an broke into pieces was not suppose to be there so i threw them away. now two and a half years later im finally having a problem with it running low now they claim its all my responsibility to fix alone. did i fell to mention that the a.c was used before i moved in it even looks old, or that it was put together terribly. and that the head man in charge came over to inspect it in a suit said that the coils were bent from me cleaning it. what can i do? i was told about renters rights but im not sure how it works.

I would recommend that you arrange for a consultation with an attorney
who handles landlord-tenant matters and who can review your lease and
the relevant facts surrounding your tenancy and then advise you, accordingly,
as to the situation described.
