Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
I moved into my apartment on sept. 30th of this year, 2009. my boyfriend wanted to move in to so he completed an application. on the application it asks to you have any felony charges. he checked yes and stated what were the charges for...cardinal knowledge (sex offender). i asked the assistant manager at the time if this was going to be a problem, then i wouldnt move in. he assured me that if his application comes back denied then just put him down as a visitor. we didnt hear anything back from the rent office until he registered with the state police as a sex offender, which he has to do every 90 days. this was done on november 10th. november 17th, i received a call from the rent office stating my lease will be terminated and now i received the letter on november 23rd stating that i will have to vacate by november 30th by noon. i wanted to know what can i do about this situation?

Assuming that your lease contains a provision requirng at least 30 days advance notice for such termination of the lease by the landlord, it is probable that you are legally entitled to stay in the unit until January 1, 2010, paying, of course, the rent when due for the month of December.
