Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

when we moved into our apt last yr. the land lord left some items and said tht if we couldnt usthe the items, to just get rid of them. Now we have moved out and and he is looking for those items that we got rid of. he is even threatening to file a police report. What can I do?

Like so many things, this is just a question of PROOF.

If the court or police believe you, then there is no problem. If they don't believe you, then there could be some problems.

(However, I don't think that the police will do anything. Because he rented the apartment to you, and gave yo uaccess to those items, I do not believe that you can be successfully prosecuted for anything. You might be charged. But I think it would evnetually fail. Since he gave you access to those items, he gave you permission to have the use and control of those items in the apartment, I think this could not be a criminal matter. But he could sue you fo rthe monetary value of the items.)

So the problem -- as usually - is how can you rpove that he said that all that time ago?

The problem is not what happened, but how can you prove what happened?
