Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
I moved into my current apartment in September 2013 and began having health problems in October of 2013. Recently, after over 15 visits to different doctors, including having an MRI and upper endoscopy, I saw an allergist who indicated I am allergic to several things, including insects/reptiles. Shortly after, a online search showed the prior resident with various reptiles in my unit, including turtles, iguanas and baby alligators. This is a pet free community. I have developed asthma because of these allergy attacks and have ongoing breathing concerns. Do I have a legitimate case against my landlord for negligence? This was brought to the attention of corporate management and I was offered nothing except an early lease termination.

Given the facts you've described, I think that you'd be well advised to take
what the management has offered you, i.e., early lease termination without
penalty and forget all about pursuing claims of negligence which would
likely fail (in my opinion).
