Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Order to Move

Three months ago my landlord verbally told me I had to move. He gave me 2 to 3 months to find another house. I have been looking but to no avail. Yesterday after a confrontation with a neighbor (who has the same landlord)

my landlord told me I had 5 days to move, that he would go tomorrow (today) and fill out the papers for eviction and post it on my door. Is this legal since I have paid my rent through the end of May? I thought he would have to give me 30 days written notice.

Re: Order to Move

The landlord must give you the amount of advance notice and in the manner specified as required under the lease whether it's one that's covered under Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act(VRLTA) or the common law.

Either way, the five day notice which you've described will not suffice to constitute your legal notice to quit the premises that's enforceable.
