Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Do i need to pay a deposit after 10 years?
I have a question. I recently moved in with my friend, who has been renting her house for almost 10 years. Her landlord just came to her and said he wants a $700 deposit from her and is now deciding to write up a lease for all of his renters, afer all this time. My question is, can a landlord come to a renter and demand a deposit after 10 years?
Thanks
Joyce

Yes, he can since the landlord owns the property and is free to determine the conditions (within the law) under which the property will be leased to or rented by non-owners.
