Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Never Received Final Apartment Bill
I broke my lease about 6 months ago and have still yet to receive a final bill (which should include the one month's rent worth of early termination fee) from the apartment complex. I've called them twice now trying to get a final bill and giving them my updated address both times, but still have received nothing. And while I'm perfectly content not paying, I'm worried that may cause legal issues down the line. Therefore I was hoping to get some advice on the best way to get written proof that I tried to obtain a final bill. Should I write them a letter, get it notarized, and save a copy or is there some better way to go about things? Any help and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: Never Received Final Apartment Bill
You should make sure that in fact the early termination fee was only the equivalent of one month's rent. Then prepare a formal letter requesting an invoice for any outstanding charges which may still be on your record. Send
the letter certified (return receipt requested)and keep a copy for your records.
