Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
I recently moved and my former landlord is demanding that I prove I paid her rent for several months more than four years ago. She is holding my security deposit until I prove this. I'm flabbergasted that she is requiring this she says her records don't reflect our payments to her for three months back in 2009. Is the burden on me to prove this? Is this legal what she is doing?

Send this ungracious former landlord written notice that you refuse her demand and that you will sue her in the local general district court for the amount of your deposit plus court costs unless she returns forthwith your security deposit in full.
