Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

My rent check is sent from my bank. If the postmarked date on the envelope shows the rent was not sent late, can my landlord pretend he received it late. He says the postmark is not "proof."

Of course, the landlord can pretend to whatever he wishes, but if the postmark

comports with the requirements of the lease and/or the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act (VRLTA--if applicable) as to the timeliness of rent

payments, then the postmark should be "proof" enough.
