Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Rental Agreement
I renewned a 12 month lease with my apartment complex. Upon signing the new lease I told them I would be moving and was told they do not offer any type of month to month only 12 month leases..I explained that I would not sign a year lease if I could not break it, at which point was told as long as I provide a 60 written notice there would be no problem. I provided them with a 60 day written notice and I am now being told that I am still responsible for the lease until July or until rented. Since I provided a notice do have have to leave if apartment if not rented because I can not afford to pay rent at two places nor mess up my credit? And is there anything else I can do?

Re: Rental Agreement
Since you apparently did not get the alleged 60 day notice option written into the current lease as an addendum(or at least memoralized as a separate writing)by the landlord, I'd say you're probably stuck with paying the lease until July.
