Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
rental security deposit
I would like to know how long after your rental contract is complete, does the landlord have to refund your deposit? And is it a law, you must do a walk through with the tenant before you start work for the next tenant?

Re: rental security deposit
If the lease agreement is governed by the Virginia Residential Landlord & Tenant Act, the Landlord generally has 45 days to refund a security deposit, if due. The Act states that the Landlord is to give notice to the departing tenant of the right to do a walk-through, usually within 72 hours of move-out. The Tenant must give written notice of intent to be present.
