Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

What are my respomsibility if I co-sign a rental lease and the original tenant b

I co-signed a lease with a friend of mine and they skipe town and broke the lease without informing me. I found out when a collection company contacted me about payment. I would like to know what am I legally responsible to pay. The balance is over $4800 in rental, cleaning and other fees. Any advise you can give is greately appreciated.

Yes, Sir(or Madam), jointly and severally liable is the operative legal term which appears to be so woefully, and without apparent mitigation, utterly applicable to the situation which you've described.

As to what this means in terms of your question "what am I legally responsible to pay?":

Answer-the WHOLE ENCHILDA, yep, including rental, cleaning, and related fees.
