Who is Responsible for Utilities

My lease ends on June 15th and I have already paid the rent for the final month. My question is this: We will be out of the house on June 10th when we will conduct the final inspection and hand over the keys. Since we will no longer have possession of the house, can we take the utilities out of our name as of June 10th?

I see no reason why you should not be able to take your name off the utilities effective the day you actually move from the premises.(This should be a matter between you and the local utility rather than you and the landlord.)

Yes, certainly. THe only exception I can think of would be in the middle of winter, if turning off the heat might cause damage in the terms of broken pipes, etc. That is obviously not a problem here.

ALSO... make sure you take photographs of the condition of the apartment when you leave. Perhaps bring a witness along.

SOme landlords will slam you with claims for damages after you move out, some of them invented.
