Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Sailor Vacated Apartment

I am one of 3 lease holders of a apt. One of the lease holders are in the US Navy and wanted to ad another sailor who she is romantically involved with to the lease. The girl she is involved with has been a guest of the sailor lease holder since July. Myself & the other lease holder have been trying to get the sailor friend out of apt. Because our apt complex policy is that to stay here you must be on the lease. Last week the complex sent notice to the sailor lease holder. Saying she had 5 days to get her friend to leave or we in violation of our lease. She wanted to put friend on the lease but myself and other lease holder refused to sign new lease adding the obnoxious friend. Sailor roommate and her friend got angry last night packed up all their belongings and left the apt for good. Our lease is until July and the sailor claims she can either get fake orders or beg her chief to get her orders to move to Florida. So she can get off lease early with no penalty. She also claims she is not paying any more. Me and my other roommate and lease holder now left can't support and sustain the apt alone. The sailor made the most out of all of us. Do we have any legal rights to make her accountable until July on this apt?

Re: Sailor Vacated Apartment

Yes, come July, 2009, you could sue her (probably in small claims court)for contribution reflecting the total amount of her share of the lease which you and the others have paid to maintain the lease until its expiration date.
