Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

If I signed a lease with a room mate agreeing to pay half of the rent for a year and the room mate leaves before the end of the lease am I responsible for the whole rent amount or what I agreed to pay when signing the lease initially? Please Help.... Thanks in advance

Yep, you're likely responsible for the "Whole Enchilida" (at least the part

that remains unpaid until lease terminates) if your "roommie" absconds (or, perhaps, has already absconded).
