Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I sold a condo in Va. There was a tenant in the unit. The buyer agreed to honor all terms of the lease. I gave the buyer the tenants security deposit at the closing. At the end of the lease term the new owners will not return the tenants security deposit. The tenant attorney says the tenant has to sue me for the deposit not the new owner. Does the Tenant have a claim against me?

Without reviewing those provisions of the agreement which governed the assignment of the lease to the new owner(if there are any in writing) as well as the original lease itself, I couldn't say.
