Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

How do I get my son out of my house?

My son is 26 years old and moved into my house 3 months ago. After repeatley telling him he has to leave he has now left all of his belonging here and claims that I must serve him with papers and then he has 30 days to get his stuff. Do I have to serve him papers if he is not a renter and was just living here for free?

Re: How do I get my son out of my house?

No, you need not serve this apparently ungrateful son with "papers" to remove him and his belongings from your home.

As a courtesy of sorts you could send him written notice that he has until

______ to come and retrieve his personal property and that if these items have not been picked up by that date then you will dispose of them as you see fit.
