Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Subpoena of wittness
I'm suing my ex-landlord in small claims court for none refund of deposit, motel expenses, and electricity used while home was being repaired for frozen pipes. At the time we did have a verbal agreement, that she would cover these costs. She moved it to District court, and her lawyer moved for a continuance? She is now counter suing me for repairs to the pipes, and I can not afford a lawyer. I can prove my case, if I can subpoena her maintenance man. And when we go to court can I too ask for more time? If I haven't found him yet? Thank you so much for your advice in this matter.

Yes, you can subpoena the landlord's maintenance man as a witness in your case, and you can also ask the general district court judge for additional time to locate and have him served with the subpoena.
