Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Tenant compensation
Another tenant accidently opened a letter intended for another tenant(letter left in wrong mailbox)stating that the landlord offered 1 tenant a $200 discount on their rent(was confirmed by an employee of the landlord)because the heating is being transferred from electric to central air. None of the other tenants were given this offer but are also living in the same conditions. The 2 heaters he gave the tenants continuously blow fuses(which he was notified of) within the household allowing to only heat 2 rooms in the home. Should he have given the same offer to each tenant? Furthermore I have a 15 & 4 year old. The landlord states the letter was confidential & denies the offer was ever made.(Accusing the other tenant of Mail Tampering).

Re: Tenant compensation
The landlord was under no obligation to extend that same offer to the other tenants.
