Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
tenant rights
My daughter and 3 roomies renewed their 12 month off campus apartment lease spring '07. August '07 the locks on their apartment and mailbox were changed by landlord. All $$s were paid and current and all their belongings were inside. New apartment keys were not available till they came to office to sign a paper. Can they do that? Also, we have not received a copy of renewed lease or any singed documents since the initial lease in spring of '06. As guarantor, do I have to pay new charges in the new lease that I've never seen, even when I've repeatedly asked for copies of all signed documents? Many other problems w/ this management group but these are the biggies right now!

Re: tenant rights
What paper were they coercively required to sign? And, yes, whoever is responsible for paying the lease must continue to pay even if s/he hasn't yet received copies of the new(or renewed) lease agreement.
