Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
unauthorized release of private information
Hi and thanks in advance for awnsering my question. I live in public housing in virginia and we had a HUD inspection for our unit. Later on in the same week I found out that our housing manager told a lady on the HOA board about our inspection.old her about what was wrong with the property. She released this info without my permission. Is this grounds for a lawsuit? The housing manager later told me that she brought up this at the HOA meeting, and also admitted to me that she did talk to her. She said that she is intitaled to some information, but Ilater found out that that statement was false. Also one more question if you can awnser it. At work a man that I work with said to me that he hates white people and that includes me too. My store manager said there is nothing he can do without a witness, is that true and is that descrimination? I would really like to thank you for any awnser you can give me. THANKS A MILLION!!!

Re: unauthorized release of private information
Here are your "million dollar answers":
(1) In my opinion, by reporting to the HOA board, whatever inspection deficits came to her attention(by whatever means), your housing manager was merely acting, presumably, in accord with the duties and obligations of her position as housing manager. And, therefore, even if some of the information which she reported was inaccurate, even that lapse would not provide you with the basis for a viable lawsuit which appears (somewhat unsettlingly) to be something which may be uppermost in your mind.
(2) Merely because your unfortunate co-worker hates white people, this, again, would not provide you with a basis for a viable lawsuit aginst this alleged hater. There is abolutely no prohibition in our venerable constitution nor in the many laws and regulations which are derived from it against hating other people.
(And, yes, we should thank the Lord for that divine dispensation----which, of course, is in no way my endorsement for the utterly counterproductive idea of hating other people.)
