Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Unlawful detainer

How can a landlord ''add'' more monies owed since normal court dates take so long...ie....they owe for May but by the time you get to court...they also owe June....as it is now...they have to show up and the judge will ask them if they owe this money....any other way...since a lot of time they do not show?

What is the correct procedure for given credits BUT not giving away your position?

Thank You!
